Organization and Time
Restructuring space and time for a more flexible education.
(Breaking Ranks)
Time is the most important resource
under the direct influence of the principal. Increasingly,
high schools are experimenting with new ways of using
time as a resource to maximize learning opportunities
for all students. These resources provide assistance
in assuring that time is used wisely and well by everyone
in the school.
Block Scheduling. This entire site at the University
of Minnesota is devoted to block scheduling: the opportunities,
the approaches, the problems and the solutions.
Clearinghouse on Educational Management. The best
ideas, the most current research, the stuff that works
-- all here from ERIC. Their block
scheduling resources are especially good.
Prisoners
of Time. This monograph from the US Department of
Education provides principals with step-by-step instructions
for breaking out of this confining prison. Be sure to
check out the section on model
programs and innovations, a well.
Center for Innovative School Scheduling. Their site
showcases what they have learned about school scheduling
through research and school contacts. It's a very useful
resource.
