Partnership Principal Richard R. Pemberton is the principal of Jefferson City (Missouri) High School

Richard R. Pemberton has been the principal since 1987 of Jefferson City (Missouri) High School, a comprehensive school that enrolls 1800 students in grades 10-12.

Dr. Pemberton led the school’s successful and acclaimed transition to block scheduling in the 2000 - 2001 school year, climaxing two full years of preparation. His staff has developed Professional Learning Communities and collaborative teams on the modeled after and in consultation with Richard DuFour and his associates. The success of this approach has led, in turn, to the school’s considering the development of academies as the next step in personalizing and maximizing learning at JCHS.

Dr. Pemberton has addressed state, regional, and national audiences on his school’s “journey of progress,” and his writings in JAY PRIDE, a parents’ magazine which he started, have won widespread recognition and applause.

For more information about his school, or for help in planning and effecting high school redesign, you may make contact Dr. Pemberton at [email protected].
