Partnership Consultant Receives
Gruhn-Long-Melton Award

Ron Williamson (right), Partnership assessment consultant, is congratulated by Lead Team Consultant Howard Jennings on receiving the Gruhn-Long-Melton Award from NASSP at its annual convention.

The award commemorates three noted leadership experts, William Gruhn, Forrest Long and George Melton, whose work spanned seven decades and who helped define secondary school leadership in the 20th Century. The Award is given by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in recognition of life-time achievement in middle level leadership.

Ron began his teaching career in Ann Arbor, following his graduation from the University of Michigan. He also served as an assistant principal, principal, curriculum director and Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the same district. After earning his doctorate in leadership at Eastern Michigan University, Ron taught at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, where he also directed the principal preparation center and program. Currently, he is on the faculty at Eastern Michigan where he continues to work closely with principals throughout the nation.

In addition to his work with the Partnership, Ron works closely with the California-based Galef Institute’s comprehensive school reform initiative which involves principals and schools throughout the U.S. He has also served as a planning and assessment consultant to the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, NASSP, and dozens of school districts throughout the nation. A prolific writer, Ron’s work has appeared in dozens of journals, including the NASSP Bulletin, Principal Leadership, Educational Leadership, The Administrator, the Middle School Journal, and many others devoted to educational improvement. He is also the author of four books on leadership and school improvement.

Ron and his wife, Marsha, make their home in Ann Arbor. They are the parents of two grown children.
