| Union Pacific Recognized by Chicago Principals for Partnership
The Chicago Principals and Administrators Association recognized Union Pacific for its support of high school principals during the two years the Principals Partnership has operated in the city. In presenting the award to Mike Payette, Assistant Vice President for Government Affairs, Lona Bibbs, Principal of Westinghouse High School, cited Union Pacific for its generosity, its commitment to public education, and its support for strong school leadership. She also praised the company for its three-year commitment to the Chicago Public Schools.
Earlier, Arne Duncan, Superintendent of the Chicago Public Schools told Payette that he believed business partnerships are the cornerstone of a world-class school system. He also expressed thanks on behalf of the district and high school principals.
The award was presented at the CPAA’s Annual Leadership Conference, for which the Principals’ Partnership provided the keynote speaker, Dr. David Sousa, a popular researcher and consultant who has been featured at the Summer Leadership Institute. Working with CPAA, the Chicago Leadership Academies for Student Success (CLASS) and the High School Development Office, the Principals’ Partnership has sponsored six leadership development seminars during the current academic year, ranging from standards based instructional leadership to working with struggling teachers in the urban school and classroom assessment to improves high stakes test performance.
Now in its third year of operation in Chicago, the Principals’ Partnership serves nearly one hundred high school principals in the city, the nation’s third largest school system.
