Principals' Partnership Summer Institute!

More than 600 public high school principals will convene in
one of the country’s most popular convention sites, San Antonio, this July
for the third Principals’ Partnership Summer Institute at the San Antonio
Marriott Rivercenter.
Four general session
speakers, 15 chat sessions, 11 information sessions, five
assemblies, and numerous other networking opportunities
will highlight the July 11-14 meeting.
Invitations
to the Institute, the showcase of The Partnership, have
already been mailed to participating principals. If you
have not received yours, contact your team leader to learn
how to register.
The
Institute begins with a reception and dinner Sunday evening
when Dick Davidson, Chairman, CEO and President, Union
Pacific Corporation, will welcome the principals and discuss
school leadership and The Partnership.
Dr.
Bertice Berry, a noted sociologist, educator and author,
will speak on “Finding Your Purpose: At Home, At
Work and In The Community” at the opening general
session Monday morning. Monday will also include NASSP
Executive Director Gerald Tirozzi’s keynote address
on “Today’s Principal” at noon and the
return of Brain Growth Expert David A. Sousa to his third
Institute. Sousa will discuss “The Leadership Brain:
How To Lead Today’s School’s More Effectively.”
The
closing general session, Wednesday, will feature Larry
Bell, a 25-year veteran of education, former National Agnes
Mayer Outstanding Teacher Award nominee, and supervisor
of multicultural education for Virginia’s Prince
William County Public Schools. Bell, who is currently president
of Multicultural America, Inc., will speak on “Closing
The Achievement Gap: Every Teacher Can.”
Other
sessions will focus on “How To Survive as a New Principal,” “Ninth
Grade Transition,” “Creating Small Learning
Communities,” “Standards-Based Instruction,” “Using
Data To Improve Schools,” “NCLB’s Impact
on Rural Principals,” “Getting Kids to Come
To School and Stay There,” “Walkthrough—Walking
The Talk Of Instructional Leadership,” and “Working
with Challenging Parents”, among many others.
“Principals
have told us they value the networking opportunities this
Partnership provides, and we are making sure there will
be ample opportunities for principals to talk with principals
at the Institute,” said Jim Garvin, senior consultant
for The Partnership. “We have scheduled numerous
interactive events, including chat sessions, team meetings,
and free time when participants can set up personal meetings.”
