Idaho Principals Honor Union
Pacific
Omaha, Neb., January 17, 2006 – During
a ceremony here yesterday, the Idaho Association of Secondary
School Principals (IASSP) honored Union Pacific with its
Distinguished Service Award for The Principals’ Partnership,
a program that provides support to high school principals.
"Union Pacific created The Principals’ Partnership
because we believe strong leaders build strong schools," said
Charlie Clark, special representative for Union Pacific Railroad
who accepted the award from IASSP. "Principals are the
leaders in high schools and we want to support their commitment
and dedication to providing an environment where quality
learning can take place."
The Principals’ Partnership began in
2002 and will have 1,000 principals from UP’s 23-state
service territory in the program by year-end 2006. Idaho
principals joined the program in 2003. Currently 48 Idaho
principals are enrolled in the program, from the following
schools: Montpelier, Blackfoot, Boise, Caldwell, Coeur d’Alene,
Idaho Falls, Kuna, Sandpoint, Clark Fork, Meridian, Eagle,
Nampa, Plummer, Pocatello, Preston, Shelley, Soda Springs
and Weiser.
"We are pleased and honored
that Union Pacific chose Idaho principals to participate
in The Principals’ Partnership
program," said Vikki Reynolds, associate director of
the IASSP. "They provide quality development for the
principals, and a long-term commitment to do so. All of our
principals are very impressed with the activities and resources
available through The Principals’ Partnership."
The Principals’ Partnership is the signature
charitable giving program
of the Union Pacific Foundation. Under the program,
Union Pacific provides an education consultant
to work one-on-one with the high school principal, on any
issue identified by the principal. The program also provides
development
opportunities for principals throughout the year, including an all-expenses-paid,
professional summer conference.
There is no cost to the principal or the school district
for any Principals’ Partnership activity.
In addition to the Idaho award,
The Principals’ Partnership
has been recognized by state education associations in Wyoming
and Utah, and the National Association of Secondary School
Principals.
